Mastercard Purchase Protection — the full conditions
If Purchase Protection is shown for your Card tier in the Sinder app, it is an insurance benefit administered by Mastercard's insurer — not by Sinder. It can repair, replace or reimburse eligible items bought entirely with your Card that are stolen or accidentally damaged within 365 days of purchase, up to the limits for your card tier. Cover is subject to the insurer's terms, and claims are decided and paid by the insurer. This page sets out the full conditions in plain language.
Who is covered
The benefit is conditional, not a standing entitlement. It applies only if it is shown for your Card tier in the Sinder app and your ruya-issued Card is valid, open and in good standing (not cancelled, suspended or delinquent) at the time of claim.
Cardholders include secondary and additional cardholders on the same account, in the country where the Card was issued.
What is covered
- Loss of covered purchases due to accidental damage or theft occurring within 365 days from the purchase date on the store receipt.
- Items must be purchased entirely with the eligible Card (or with rewards points earned on it).
- Gifts and internet purchases are covered; items do not need to be registered.
- The insurer decides whether to replace the item or reimburse the original purchase price, less any rebates, discounts or rewards points.
- For pairs or sets, cover is limited to the replaceable item — otherwise the value of the pair or set, up to the per-occurrence limit.
Cover limits by card tier (May 2026 schedule)
- Platinum Debit: USD 2,000 per claim and USD 5,000 in total over 12 months.
- Platinum Credit: USD 5,000 per claim and USD 20,000 over 12 months.
- Higher tiers (World, World Elite, World Legend) carry higher limits per the schedule.
- Limits are per cardholder and in USD or local-currency equivalent.
Main exclusions
- Motor vehicles, airplanes, drones, boats, motorcycles and their equipment, parts or accessories.
- Permanent fixtures such as carpeting, flooring, tiles, air conditioners, refrigerators or heaters.
- Travellers' cheques, cash, tickets, negotiable instruments, bullion, rare coins or stamps.
- Art, antiques, collectables, furs, jewellery, gems, precious stones and fragile items.
- Consumables, perishables, plants, animals, hazardous materials and banned items.
- Losses caused by abuse, wilful damage, vermin, wear and tear, inherent defects, mechanical or electrical failure, war or terrorism.
- Mysterious disappearance (loss under unknown circumstances) is defined in the certificate — read the full wording for how it is treated.
How to claim
- Give written notice of the claim no later than 90 days from the date of the incident — late notice may result in denial.
- File the claim through Mastercard's claims portal and provide the proof the insurer requires (receipts and supporting documents).
- You may be asked to send in the damaged item at your expense for evaluation.
- Benefits are paid by the insurer to the eligible cardholder; fraudulent claims forfeit all benefits.
- Sinder does not assess, decide or pay Purchase Protection claims — the insurer does, under the laws of the country where the Card was issued.
Sinder-side conditions (Benefits & Rewards Terms)
- Benefits appear in the Sinder app when available for your Card tier — cover, eligibility and terms can change as programmes refresh.
- Benefits may be introduced, changed, suspended or withdrawn, including for commercial, operational, regulatory, risk or partner-related reasons.
- If your Card tier changes, or your Card or account is closed, suspended or blocked, you may lose access and unused benefits may be forfeited.
