Last updated: 15 June 2026
These Sinder Travel Card & Wallet Terms ("Cardholder Terms") govern the use of your Sinder Travel Card and associated account and wallet view made available through the Sinder mobile and web application (the "Sinder App").
By applying for, activating or using the Card, or by clicking "I agree" when presented with these Cardholder Terms, you agree to be bound by them.
These Cardholder Terms form a legally binding agreement between:
- you, the individual customer to whom the Card is issued ("you" or "Cardholder"); and
- Ruya Community Islamic Bank LLC, a bank licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE, with its principal office located at Building 04, Marsa Ajman, United Arab Emirates ("ruya", "we", "us" or "our").
Sinder Fintech Computer Systems & Communication Equipment Software Design L.L.C ("Sinder") is not a contracting party to these Cardholder Terms. Except where a clause clearly refers to Sinder by name, "we", "us" and "our" mean ruya.
Payment processing and switching services for the Card are supported by Network International LLC ("Network International"). Network International is not a party to these Cardholder Terms.
1. Sinder's role
Sinder operates the Sinder App and technology interface that allows you to apply for, activate, view and manage the Card and your account relationship with ruya.
Sinder may provide customer support triage, technical interface services, programme support and communications through the Sinder App. Sinder does not issue the Card, hold customer funds as principal, provide banking services, provide a credit facility or act as a licensed bank.
Your access to and use of the Sinder App is governed separately by the Sinder General Terms of Use.
2. Product description
The Sinder Travel Card is a Mastercard Platinum Debit card issued by ruya. The Card is linked to an underlying account and available balance with ruya. It is not a credit card and does not provide an overdraft.
You may only spend funds that are available to you. No interest is paid on balances and no credit facility is provided.
Through the Sinder App, you may be able to:
- view your available balance and transaction history;
- use card controls such as freeze, unfreeze and online transaction settings;
- view card details and statements where available; and
- see FX, fees, benefits and support information.
The Sinder App is a technology interface. The underlying account and Card are provided by ruya as issuer and account provider.
3. Eligibility and application
To obtain and use the Card, you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- have legal capacity to enter into binding agreements;
- satisfy eligibility, residency, risk and compliance checks; and
- successfully complete KYC, AML/CFT and sanctions screening requirements.
You agree that UAE PASS or other identity verification methods may be used to verify your identity, validate your information and share relevant data with ruya, Sinder, Network International, Mastercard and service providers where needed for onboarding, servicing, fraud prevention, transaction monitoring and compliance.
ruya may decline an application, refuse a transaction, block a Card or end the Card relationship where required or permitted by applicable law, regulatory requirements, card scheme rules, issuer requirements or compliance/risk controls.
4. Card issuance, activation and ownership
The Card is issued by ruya. Sinder provides the Sinder App interface for requesting, viewing and managing the Card.
The Card may be virtual, physical or both. You must follow the activation instructions in the Sinder App or provided with the Card before using it.
The Card remains ruya's property at all times. You must not share, sell, transfer or allow anyone else to use your Card, card details, PIN, passwords, one-time codes or security credentials.
5. Wallet, account and funds
The wallet view in the Sinder App reflects the available balance in your underlying account or ledger maintained by ruya or on ruya's behalf. This balance is what you can spend with the Card, subject to holds, limits and controls.
Funds may be loaded or received through methods permitted from time to time, such as salary payments, bank transfers, incoming account transfers or other supported funding methods.
ruya may reject, reverse, delay or restrict a credit, load or transfer where required or permitted by applicable law, regulatory requirements, card scheme rules, issuer requirements or compliance/risk controls.
6. Using the Card
You can use the Card anywhere Mastercard is accepted, subject to merchant acceptance, available balance, applicable limits and controls.
Subject to features enabled on your Card, you may:
- make retail / point-of-sale purchases;
- make online and e-commerce purchases;
- make contactless payments up to applicable limits;
- withdraw cash at ATMs; and
- use card-on-file, in-app and recurring payment features where supported.
You authorise a transaction when you use the Card, card details, PIN, one-time code, biometric approval or another authentication method. Once authorised, a transaction usually cannot be cancelled, although you may have refund, dispute or chargeback rights depending on the circumstances.
Some merchants or ATM operators may place a hold or pre-authorisation that temporarily reduces your available balance until cleared, adjusted or released.
You must not use the Card for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, sanctioned, restricted or high-risk activity.
7. Currency, FX and pricing
Transactions may be made in AED or in another currency accepted by Mastercard. If a transaction is made in a foreign currency, it is converted using the Mastercard Exchange Rate on the date the transaction is processed, which may differ from the date of purchase.
For Phase 1, your monthly foreign-currency allowance is AED 40,000 per calendar month, worldwide. It applies to foreign-currency retail/e-commerce card transactions and foreign-currency ATM cash withdrawals. The allowance resets each calendar month.
Transaction timing for allowance tracking and weekday/weekend pricing is based on processing or settlement timing by Mastercard and/or Network International, not necessarily the local time at purchase.
The Phase 1 FX markup model is:
| FX situation | Monday-Friday FX markup | Saturday-Sunday FX markup |
|---|---|---|
| Within AED 40,000 monthly FX allowance | 0% | 0% |
| Over AED 40,000 monthly FX allowance | 0.5% on the excess amount only | 1.5% on the excess amount only |
If a transaction causes you to cross the monthly FX allowance, the transaction is split for pricing purposes. The portion within the remaining allowance receives 0% FX markup, and only the excess portion receives the applicable over-allowance FX markup.
Some merchants or ATMs may offer dynamic currency conversion into AED. If you choose that option, the merchant or ATM operator sets the conversion rate and may apply its own charges. This is outside ruya's and Sinder's control.
8. Fees and charges
Standard Phase 1 fees and limits are summarised in Schedule 1 and may also be shown in the Sinder App or FX & Fees Disclosure.
Fees are deducted from your available balance. If a fee is due and your available balance is insufficient, we may restrict the Card, recover the amount from future credits or take other steps permitted by applicable law.
We may change fees, limits or FX arrangements from time to time, with notice where required by applicable law.
9. Limits and controls
The standard Phase 1 daily limits are:
- daily cash ATM limit: AED 10,000;
- daily e-commerce limit: AED 50,000; and
- daily retail / POS limit: AED 60,000.
Different or lower limits may apply based on your profile, verification status, security settings, transaction type, risk assessment, the Sinder App settings, issuer requirements or compliance/risk controls.
The Sinder App may allow you to freeze or unfreeze your Card, manage transaction settings, view spending limits and access card details. These controls may change over time.
10. Statements, history and disputes
Your transaction history and balance may be available in the Sinder App and/or through channels made available by ruya. You should review your transactions regularly and report unauthorised or incorrect entries promptly.
If you believe a transaction is unauthorised, processed incorrectly or not in line with what you agreed with a merchant, contact Sinder support as soon as possible through the Sinder App or at support@sinder.ae.
Some transactions may be reversible through the Mastercard chargeback process. We will assess and support eligible disputes, but chargeback outcomes depend on evidence, timing and card scheme rules.
Merchant refunds may take time to process and appear in your account. Refunds may be affected by FX conversion and processing timing.
11. Security
You must keep your Card, device, PIN, passwords, one-time codes and security credentials safe and confidential. You must notify Sinder immediately if your Card, device or credentials are lost, stolen, compromised or used without permission.
For online transactions, additional verification such as 3D Secure, one-time codes or biometric approval may be required. If verification is not completed, the transaction may be declined.
12. Lost, stolen or unauthorised transactions
If your Card or device is lost or stolen, or you suspect unauthorised use, you should immediately freeze the Card in the Sinder App if available and contact Sinder support.
Your liability for unauthorised transactions depends on applicable law, card scheme rules, how promptly you report the issue and whether you acted fraudulently, intentionally or with gross negligence.
13. Suspension, blocking and closure
ruya may suspend, block, restrict or close your Card or account, and Sinder may restrict access through the Sinder App, where required or permitted by applicable law, regulatory requirements, card scheme rules, issuer requirements or compliance/risk controls.
You may request closure through the Sinder App or by contacting support@sinder.ae. Account/card closure is ultimately linked to the ruya-issued Card and account. Before closure, you may need to repay negative balances and arrange return of any positive balance, subject to identification, compliance checks and applicable law.
No inactivity fee is charged for Phase 1. An account may still be treated as inactive or dormant if there is no customer-initiated activity for a prolonged period, and additional checks may be required before reactivation or release of funds.
14. Communications
You agree that communications, notices, statements and updates may be provided electronically through the Sinder App, email, SMS, push notification or other digital channels you have provided.
You must keep your contact details up to date. Communications may be provided in English and other languages. If there is an inconsistency, the English version prevails unless applicable law requires otherwise.
15. Complaints and escalation
For support or complaints, contact Sinder first through the Sinder App or by email at support@sinder.ae. Sinder may triage, support and route complaints to ruya as issuer/account provider where the issue relates to the account, Card issuance or regulated banking services.
Unresolved complaints relating to a UAE licensed financial institution may be eligible for escalation to Sanadak after the relevant internal complaint process has been attempted.
16. Liability and disclaimers
ruya is not responsible for the quality, safety, legality or delivery of goods or services purchased with the Card. Merchant disputes are between you and the merchant, without prejudice to any rights you may have under applicable law or Mastercard rules.
Service availability may be affected by maintenance, outages, third-party failures, processing delays, security controls or events outside reasonable control.
Nothing in these Cardholder Terms excludes liability for fraud, gross negligence, wilful misconduct or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
17. Changes to these Cardholder Terms
These Cardholder Terms may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in law, regulatory requirements, card scheme rules, issuer requirements, fees, limits, features or risk controls.
Where required, notice of material changes will be provided through the Sinder App, email or another appropriate channel. If you continue to use the Card after changes take effect, you will be treated as accepting the updated Cardholder Terms.
18. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Cardholder Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Dubai, without regard to conflict of law rules.
The courts of the Emirate of Dubai and, where applicable, the federal courts of the UAE shall have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer, financial services or dispute-resolution rules that apply.
19. Miscellaneous
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Cardholder Terms without our written consent.
If any provision is invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. If we do not enforce a provision immediately, that does not waive our right to enforce it later.
